Spend two minutes on social media these days and you’re bound to scroll over an animated GIF or two. Now you can join in the fun! We’re pleased to deliver support for animated GIFs in the v8.2 release of the Widen Media Collective. Animated GIFs are viewable and embeddable from Quick View and the Asset Details page, and a refine search filter empowers users to narrow their results to find animated GIFs.
Why do Internet marketers use these file types in their online media strategies? They’re easily consumable (and buzzworthy!), often mesmerizing, and comparatively inexpensive to make.
New to animated GIFs? Follow these best practices as you incorporate them into your marketing mix:
Be strategic. As with any new content type, the subject of your GIF should align with your content marketing strategy or strategic product vision. Consider the intent and message you want to convey, and allow it to drive your creativity.
Repurpose. Animated GIFs are perfect for recycling existing content because they introduce motion to still imagery or video. So turning “old” content in a GIF often looks new! Before you sink money and time into creating new content to make these assets, take stock of your library of approved brand images.
Spotlight important stuff in the Media Collective. Increase users’ awareness of important announcements by embedding animated GIFs in a system message on your Dashboard.
Track it. Use share links to distribute GIFs and watch their analytics tick up. Visit the Asset Details page to view popularity and download the raw data. (Later this fall you’ll be able to view aggregate data for all animated GIFs on the site from our new analytics tool!)
Have fun. By nature, animated GIFs tend to pack a lot of personality! Don’t be afraid to get playful with them. Just make sure they align with your overall content strategy.
