The HON company is one of the world’s largest designers and manufacturers of office furniture, and has been a valued customer of Widen for over 10 years. As the landscape of acquiring and managing digital media files has changed greatly over the past decade, so has HON’s usage and management of their digital asset management (DAM) system, called the HON Image Library (HIL).
Interview with Cathy Hanson, Marketing Communications Specialist at The HON Company
- Introduction to HON
- Who benefits from the digital asset library?
- What do you manage in the HON Image Library?
- How DAM is integrated with Single Sign-On
- Thoughts of Widen and the Widen User Summit
Cathy Hanson grabbed the reigns as the main digital asset management administrator of the HON Image Library several years ago and took some time to sit down and talk with us at the Widen User Summit about her thoughts on Widen’s product, service and educational events. She mentioned that HON uses Widen as a benchmark when searching for other vendors. She is appreciative that Widen is proactive and pushes new technology to HON rather than HON having to wait and ask for it.
HON uses the Media Collective to manage and distribute high resolution images and video. Images can be easily searched, converted to the proper format on the fly, and then delivered on-demand. HON’s use of video has increased recently and delivers animations, installation training videos, and pre-packaged television ads ready for local dealers to just put their information on a slate at the end of the video. Internally, the marketing team is the heaviest user group of the DAM system, accessing assets to create flyers, banners, brochures and catalogs. Externally, their dealer network relies on the digital library to have access to high quality, current, and approved imagery of all products.
She also gave great detail on how HON integrated the image library into their dealer portal (Single Sign On, or SSO portal) via Widen’s API. Continual training and promotion of the HIL to HON’s network of dealers and service techs have made their digital asset library one of the most popular tools in their dealer portal. Not only is it a critical tool to maintain branding and consistency, it has become critical to their marketing operations.
