Meet our new friends in the Big Easy! How DAM software helps in marketing a city

We work with organizations of all shapes and sizes. We’re always learning about the nuanced digital asset management software needs of marketers across all industries. Aside from making us better creators of media management systems, this also keeps it interesting for the Widen team. We get to meet, help and develop relationships with all sorts of great people.

The New Orleans Tourism Marketing Corporation is one of the latest additions to the Widen Media Collective user community. We recently met with Jean Paul Gisclair, their online manager, in the Big Easy to talk DAM software, New Orleans and destination marketing.

“Our organization is really tasked with bringing leisure travelers to the city of New Orleans and showing them what a wonderful city this is. New Orleans really is a unique city and it has such strong visuals, between the streetcars and the food, the cuisine, you know if you look at a shot of food and it gets your mouth watering... if that doesn’t make you want to come to New Orleans, then we have a long uphill battle in front of us,” said Gisclair.

Anybody who’s been to New Orleans knows it’s among the most unique places in the United States. From the architecture to the food to the music, Gisclair and others at NOTMC are in charge of making sure that the city puts its best foot forward, turning digital visitors into real ones.

Luckily for them, New Orleans does half the work just by being awesome. But once they’ve captured the city through images and videos, it takes a powerful DAM system to support the massive undertaking of marketing an entire city.

“We host a variety of websites,” Gisclair said. “New Orleans Online is our primary website. It’s thousands of pages of rich content. We also have a Go NOLA blog. We have several other websites that we manage, all geared to bringing leisure travelers to the city. As such, we have a lot of developers and partners that manage those sites that are always looking for good photography to help promote the city.”

New Orleans Tourism is also a public relations machine. When media outlets are looking to feature imagery of the city in — for instance — lists of the best restaurants or hotels in the country, they might turn to the NOTMC for those assets. That’s when features like Media Collective’s on-the-fly file conversions come in handiest.
