Why I like Software as a Service & Digital Asset Management

by ,

For those of you with installed digital asset management software and store your assets on internal servers – what do you do when you aren’t in the office and you need stuff?  Take my case this week.  I took a couple days vacation to Albuquerque, NM and took my laptop.  Of course, we all still check our work email even when we are on vacation and lo and behold there was an email that needed to be addressed while I was gone.

Widen is one of the sponsors of the CCUMC Annual Conference in Lawrence, Kansas this October and I needed to provide the conference organizers with a Widen logo in hi-res EPS format.  Thank goodness I can log on to Salesforce.com – find the account and contact that I need to send the file to – and because Widen’s web-based digital asset management integrates with the CRM application Salesforce.com via the contacts tab – in a couple clicks that file will be on its way!  I click the ‘send media’ button in the contact section which takes me to our digital asset management application within Salesforce.com.  Once there I do a quick search for “Widen Logo.”  A handful of results come up – I pick the logo that I need – place it in my shopping cart – and start the checkout process.  I pick the format needed, in this case EPS, and after a click or two, an email is off to the CCUMC contact.  When the contact opens the email from Widen – all she needs to do is click the link – which takes her to a pickup page where she downloads the logo in EPS format.  Easy!  All of this took less than 5 minutes and was accomplished with a handful of clicks even when I was away from the office!  That’s why I like DAM SaaS.
