Widen Media Collective is a critical tool for a non-profit using images to tell emotional stories

Teach For America is an international non-profit organization with a mission to eliminate educational inequity. Monique Zurita is with TFA’s marketing group and is the main admin for their Widen Media Collective digital asset management system. She is a talented and dedicated admin that took some time to sit down with us and share how DAM has impacted their organization.

 

 

Images are a mission critical tool for TFA’s creative team. After realizing they had thousands of photos with no metadata and no way to search, finding a way to manage them became a priority. Monique details how she had her notes from photo shoots, but they were not combined with the images in any way. She states “I was literally the only person in the organization that knew all of the information, and I knew it was important.”

Once TFA moved forward with DAM, they were able to do a quick search of over 50,000 images. It enabled them to quickly get beautiful brand-approved imagery to anyone they’re working with in a controlled manner. 

Being new to the world of DAM, Monique also shares how important Widen’s customer service was to not only their selection process, but also to their implementation. They needed help throughout the process, and Widen provided it because customer service is woven into the culture at Widen. It wasn’t a new thing. 

Fiscal responsibility is very important for a non-profit, so Monique had to show that not only implementing a DAM was justified, but that it would actually make them a better design team. In the video, she shares a great stat about how often they look for images and how often they find what they’re looking for, she revealed that her designers only found the images 30% of the time. If you’re not leveraging and maximizing photoshoots that cost money, you’re essentially wasting it. Not only has DAM fixed this issue, Monique states it has now allowed them to do more photo shoots. 

In the end, the marketing team at TFA is charged with elevating the stories of their members and alumni. Images tell everything, and help make an emotional connection that will hopefully drive more teachers to join and stay committed. Monique says “The DAM helps us get those images out to everyone and is incredibly important to what we do.
