Here’s a scary fact: more people have mobile phones than toothbrushes. Jake Athey and Craig Squire started off their mid-morning User Summit presentation on “Going Mobile” with that thought, but don’t worry, it got better.
With mobile communications quickly becoming a factor in many workplaces, Widen offers an iOS mobile app that hooks you up with the Media Collective from your iPhone and iPad.
Media Collective apps are built in HTML5 and allow you to easily share media or view it on your device. Athey introduced four major features of mobile collective:
- Search and view assets
- Select and send assets to yourself and others
- Create and share collections on the fly
- Upload assets directly to your DAM
Future updates include allowing admins to edit metadata and asset details, approve orders, and add users on the go.
Several Widen customers use mobile already, including Red Gold and Zeiss, who we helped develop a custom mobile app to meet their needs. Susan Geiselman, Digital Asset Coordinator & Company Historian at Red Gold, explains how they use the app across the company:
Geiselman shared screenshots of the app loaded with Red Gold categories and assets:
After some small group time, Widen staff and customers share some tips for how to get your team using the mobile app and how to make best use of it.
The major takeaways? Think about a how your team will use the app, have an onboarding plan, and use collections to make assets available. For example, if you are thinking about rolling out mobile to your sales team, make sure you know when and where they will be using it and what assets they will be likely to need. Get your power users involved in the role out and build some buzz around adoption with games or contests.
Don’t be afraid to take your digital asset management to a new level with the mobile app. In the meantime, though, we encourage you to keep your toothbrush.
