Oracle Director of Digital Media lays out case for cloud-based services, which mirrors advantages of cloud-based DAM

by ,

Here is a great video from the Streaming Media East 2013 show. The video segment is from a customer panel on the topic of using cloud-based video services for the enterprise. The first question was to define what cloud-based services actually means. David Boyll, the Director of Digital Media Technology at Oracle had a great answer (8:18 - 10:54). While the topic was specific to video, you can quickly and easily translate his answer to all the other services that happen behind the scenes in cloud-based digital asset management. Content delivery, video delivery, analytics, transcoding, multiple device support, spike or burstable capacity, collaboration with entities outside of your organization, management services… all of these are independent technological challenges that will fall on the shoulders of your in-house IT department that may or may not have expertise in these areas.
